To name the “Americans”, people without true name.
America – democracy – liberty.
For the majority of the “Americans”, these words are synonymous. “America” is a project, a company. It is a boat to be led to good port on the ocean-ground. “USS-Enterprise!”
Speaking French-inhabitant of Quebec, I cannot continue to write in American. But I live on the continent which bears this name and I am identified like a citizen pertaining to this continent.
The American people are people of hope and I would like to allot to their country the name of “Hopeland”, with perhaps a very American deformation, I for Indian: “Hopiland”.
Naturally the “Hopelanders” could be called as they would prefer to be called, but not “Americans”: America is even larger than the “Hopeland” or “Hopiland”. I acknowledge a marked preference for the second turning, which adds a considerable historical dimension. The Hopi people, of matriarcale line, which live in Arizona, are in a certain way rather close to the Palestinians, Afghans and Iraqis, which also live in arid regions.
I put my confidence in the “Hopelanders” so that they agree to be named differently than “Americans”. There have not the right to, it is an usurpation. The “Hopiland” is only one of the countries of America.
“Hopland” is a too easy short cut and too tempting. “Go, hop!” is not setting: the speed of execution allows neither reflexion nor hope. “Happyland” is not of circumstance either. “Hopeland” is well deserved, I believe, and “Hopiland”, even more serious in these circumstances, deserves even more.
To take care of the words to actually take care. The Palestinians, Afghans, Iraqis and Hopelanders need care. If the “American” people agreed to rename themselves, I believe that it would be very encouraging for everyone.
